![]() ![]() Gibson's film takes the audience back to 1970s London, where a group of hippies bring the infamous Count Dracula back to life, unaware of how dangerous this is. This was Lee's penultimate time playing the role of Count Dracula, with his last being the 1973 film The Satanic Rites of Dracula. It was directed by Alan Gibson and starred Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. 1972 is the seventh film in Hammer Film Productions' Dracula series. Some of these have evolved into his all-time favorite films. Much of what makes him unique also stems from the films that defined him over the years, shaping his career as an artist. There are many stylistic trademarks that define Burton's films, ranging from his dark visual aesthetic to his characters, who are generally eccentric and considered misfits by those around them. Late 2022 marked the release of his latest production to date, Netflix's Wednesday, a TV series in which he serves as director and executive producer. Despite his huge success and his many years in the industry, Burton does not seem to be slowing down, and is still working on major projects to this day. Among his most popular movies, it is worth mentioning Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, and Ed Wood, which are also among his most personal productions. Over the years, Burton has treated audiences to some of the most extraordinary films across all genres, many of which have grown into cinema classics. Following this feature, Walt Disney Productions offered him a spot in their animation division, which marked the beginning of a rocky relationship with the company and, at the same time, laid the groundwork for the marvelous career that was to follow. There, he made the short film that earned him his first big break in the industry, Stalk of the Celery Monster. Like requesting a songwriter to repeat their early hits, the company made the director recycle his format. This interest stuck with him through the years, to the point where he eventually attended the California Institute of the Arts. Everything was in place to turn a classic into a modern reboot under Burton’s eccentric vision. Disney sort of recognized its mistake by offering Burton one of its biggest IPs: Alice in Wonderland. And then, by 2010, the mouse debauched from its lair of success to make things right. The sun was shining for Burton in the '90s and 2000s: Big Fish, Sweeney Todd, and The Corpse Bride were only a few of his many hits by this time. ![]() With mastery, Tim changed Gotham City forever, reminding everyone what the Bat hero was about: a decayed society looked after by a vigilante. Not soon after, Batman and Batman Returns were offered to him to lead the projects. This time, Johnny Depp, Burton’s pet actor, was onboard for a heart-warming story of a nuanced character, another step towards the director’s unique narrative. Edward Scissorhands came to be another hit in the early '90s. With a blockbuster under his belt, Tim Burton was ready for bigger challenges. This masterclass of mixing genres made the movie appealing to kids (of a certain age) and adults alike. The creator found the right balance between dark and light again, offering a creepy film with every condiment from the horror genre with the right pinch of humor. The 1988 horror comedy Beetlejuice was simply the perfect fit for Burton’s quirky tone. Lucky for Burton, other studios also noticed his talent, offering him pivotal movies in his career.
